14 of the names are animals.

7 of the team names are occupations (steelers, raiders, cowboys, packers, buccaneers, saints, 49ers).

3 of the names just indicate that they think they have good players (titans, giants, chargers).

3 of the names represent ethnic groups (Redskins, Vikings, Chiefs).

2 of the names are for a single person (Buffalo Bills, Browns)

1 team is named after a state (texans)

1 is named after a street gang (jets, wasn't it a street gang in the show West Side Story?)

Then, there are the Patriots. Isn't that a name the whole country can get behind? I think we all like to think we're patriots, so isn't that the best NFL team name?

I worked hard on this question! What do you think?

A) you're gonna get a star for sorting like that...way to think
B) considering the history and up to now (not just because i work on a ranch and help run it so we are considered one) i like the cowboys...and i will tell you why....after the gilded age people began moving west looking to own their own land, while people in the east were hearing stories about terrible gunslingers and the cowboy hero, or the type of lifestyle that they lead, living off of what they own and grow...which (and im not bragging, im just proud of what my family and I do) is a very respectable profession...we raise cattle, we ride horses, we fight, and we were the hero's in a period that dealt with corruption, monopoly, and a movement from one extreme to the next....so my answer is the cowboys

Well, historically the Patriots might be a good fit. Benedict Arnold turned his back on his nation and Bill Belichick turned back on the NFL rules. If I recall Arnold returned to Britain and lived a life of shame. That might be befitting in this current case also.

P.S. Very creative. I gave you a star.

Myrmidon doesn't understand the some coaches have class and beat their opponents with knowledge and skill as opposed to cheating. What is Belichicks record with the Patriots vs Shanahan and the Broncos? It's pretty sad, chum. Shanahan out coaches Belichick. Without cheating. Buck up, son.

The Bills were named after the Buffalo Bills from the All-American Football Conference (defunct league, obviously). The AAFC Bills' named paid homage to William "Buffalo Bill" Cody-a famous American showman who brought the "wild west" to the masses. They are not named after an animal. The teams that are named after animals tend to name themselves after animals that are intimidating. I'm not sure why how Dolphins are intimidating, but they're in Miami so it works. The Ravens name, however, was inspired by "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe who is buried in Baltimore.

I'm not even a fan of the team but the name Pittsburgh Steelers seems so clever. Pittsburgh - Steel... how perfect a combination is that. I have no idea what a steeler is or even if there is such a term. But the words go together.

Dallas Cowboys.
And thanks for the cool list of things about the names. I'm a US Patriot and a Cowboys fan who is proud to live in America where we can all have our favorite team and still be united where it really counts. God bless America!

I think the Raiders is the coolest name. And the Browns is the least coolest name. Even the Browns symbol sucks, well,so does the team lol
