Should we look to the government to take care of us like a parent or educator should?

The problems in the world are far too VAST... and with each passing day, MORE and more problems evolve... So it would be completely IMPOSSIBLE to expect the government OR any other single group, to solve ALL of our problems.
The purpose of having a government body is to ENFORCE and regulate exhisting rules and regulations... and to OVERSEE the major issues that affect the majority of the people... and to GOVERN and LEAD us... and finally to CREATE and enforce rules and LAWS that will benefit us.
NO single entity can prevent or solve ALL of society's problems... but wouldn't that be GREAT if they could..?

There are too many people with too many different points of view for this to ever take place. Besides, it is we the people who make up the government, therefore it is our responsibility to save ourselves from the problems in our society.

If you have the mental and physical capacity to take care of yourself, then that is what you should do. Government bureaucracy is too bumbling and inefficient to provide good service at a good price. Besides, I would like more freedom, not less.

It is not the governments job to do unless you are in Russia , China or Cuba. in otherwords under comunism.
