My car stalled. It is a standard. When I turn the key, it makes an rrr rrrrr noise, but when I try to push in the clutch, nothing happens.

If I push it to an incline and try to pop the clutch, will this work? Or does that only work if the battery is dead?

Agree with above answer by Fordman.

There are two issues with cars that need to be seperated. A "no-start" or starter problems. If the engine is turning over, its not your starter. Popping the clutch while rolling is only helpful if you have a bad starter, or flywheel (what the starter turns).

A "no-start" means the start is spinning and you'll hear the engine turning, but it just wont start up because of another problem, which it seems like you have.

If the starter is turning the engine over at a good speed, then letting the car roll downhill and trying to pop the clutch, will only get you to the bottom of the hill and then you'll have to worry about getting it back up the hill.

If the starter is not turning the engine over at a good speed, then pushing the car downhill will most likely work getting the car started.

good luck.

If you mean with the brake on, and foot on the gas, yes, the clutch is slipping. It could be in need of adjustment, or it may be worn out. It may even be a leak of engine or transmission lube on the clutch but if so that means seal replacement in addition to a new clutch.

Push starting will also work if the starter motor is dead, I would give it a shot. Make sure it is in gear when you try to pop the clutch.

if the starter is bad, you can start it on an incline but you do have to have some battery power to do it
