My favorite's Tolkien's version in which Iluvitar (god) sang the universe into existence.

There are many ways of seeing the same stories. And sometimes the bible can be confusing but understandable as well.
Look at the links to see if you can find a way that others can learn about it from you, and keep their attention about the truth of how we were created and why we are here.
Hope the links can shed some light for you.
Sometimes it is good to see how others understand the same stories in so many ways, and still come to the same conclusions.

sorry, I might be wrong but I'm basing the children's book off of real ideas and theories out there, not fairy tales and lies.
I try to be honest with my 7 year old. I don't want to her to believe in things that CAN'T come true.
I'll try to remain simple, but thats hard to do.
a brown dwarf seems to be the closest example to planet formation out there.
some say jupiter was trying to be a star (brown dwarf) but could not collect enough mass and heat to break the planet/star barrier.
this video explains a bit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ma3TNlIZC_I
and heres another

for the book. well, I'm not good with timing and doing the little rhyme but main elements
dust (matter) collects together by pulling on itself.
who knows where the matter comes from, a star blow up perhaps.
after a while the matter tends to end up spinning outward.
like the rings around jupiter and saturn, or the solar system (wink wink)
but, pockets in the center and randomly in the disk tend to be bigger than the rest of the matter.
the more matter, the more gravity. with enough matter balled up and gravity to smoosh it together, the more friction and heat. the more heat then chemicals break down into simpler chemicals which can get hot easier, then we have a star.
if enough matter cannot collect together, then the gravity is not a strong enough to make LOT of friction. some heat exists but not enough to boil/heat/melt the surface

Use the real reason, life is a randomly occurring anomaly that is
almost infinitely unlikely to occur, but since quantum physics states that a new universe is created to accommodate every possible outcome of every situation on the atomic, and therefore as well as on the macroscopic level, the almost infinitely unlikely outcome came to pass in one of the almost infinite universes.

When I was in fifth grade I wrote a story about how there was a man making a sundae created the earth... the ice cream was the land... the syrup the water... sprinkles were people, trees, animals, etc.
Cute, yeah?
