Rewards. Kids can begin not to "care" if they get punished or not... -But they'll ALWAYS come back for the Reward if it's in THEIR best interest! :)

I would personally choose rewards. I think punishment is just the guilt. But you've got to teach them to feel that guilt before it will become a punishment. It's good for the kids who get rewarded because they feel appreciated, and are likely to do that good thing again because they will be conditioned to think of the reward after their good action.

when i was a child it was rewards but there are those kids who would care less if they got a peice of candy. then there r the kids who it doesnt matter how much u punish them they will keep doing whatever they r doing. do really it depends on the kid

Fear can motivate a person or it can paralize a person. Some people are spurred by both. It is a moot question when you just let a child be a child and guide him or her along. Nutruing them to grow and learn to be "self sufficient".

Research has found that, in general, reinforcers work best. Especially when the variable-ratio schedule is used (like a slot machine). But I don't know what the child psych stuff has found recently.
