Why is it that places like Mexico, Thailand, and the Netherlands can have prostitution but the US can't?

For example, here in Mexico, the red zones usually located on the outskirts of the city. The girls are tested and carry health cards. There are no pimps, and the girls aren't addicted to drugs. Nobody gets hurt. Free trade all the way.

But in the US, only one state has legalized it.

What's the big deal? What are the cons against legalizing the world's oldest profession?

I said only one state has legalized it. I was obviously referring to Nevada!

Crime happens everywhere, not just in prostitution zones.

too many people like the pretense that a one-size-fits-all morality works for everything. It does work for murder and violent crimes, but not for everything.

the fact is, the status quo aids and abets human trafficking, which is a far greater wrong than single-proprietress prostitution could ever be.

Have you never been to Nevada? Prostitution is legal in all but two counties. (The two being the counties where Las Vegas and Reno are located.)

It is legal as far as the federal government is concerned. It is a state issue. And that's the way it should be. That way you can choose which style fits your beliefs.

Edit:
Can't forget about Rhode Island. Sex for money is perfectly legal there. (Just not brothels or street solicitations).

Amsterdam's about to close several venues of its infamous red light district, apparently it's not as crime free (i.e. nobody gets hurt) as people are led to believe:
