I don't see much difference except for the fear mongering. And don't say because of 9/11 because the jury is still out.

They are similar in some ways. Politicians used the Red Menace to justify huge defense expenditures and also bullying smaller countries and interfering in their governments. With the USSR gone and China becoming our biggest trading partner (and biggest creditor!) politicians needed another chimerical dragon to threaten us with--especially Republicans, who are all about bullying and imperialism.

But all through the Cold War, even with the feeling that world-wide nuclear war was an eventual inevitability, our presidents never found it necessary to ignore the constitutional limits of their offices, declare themselves immune from the laws they themselves signed, to suspend habeas corpus and other constitutional protections of US citizens, to authorize torture, etc. etc.

Also with the end of the Soviet Union, we now spend more on military and weapons than the whole rest of the world combined, and 16 times more than all our 'enemies' put together. So massive increases in defense spending are harder to justify. More aircraft carriers and tanks and airplanes and bombs will not help us in the war against terror.

I don't think the great terrorist menace will last as long as the great red menace. People are already getting tired of it.

The State is important to the Bolsheviks, only the Uma is important to the Islamofacists, but note cross overs. Communists operated in cells and the fascists did also.
Nazi thinking was incorporated into the Muslim Brotherhood and prompted Persia to become Iran, which is Farsi for Aryan. Your false notion of a red scare was debunked back in the 1980's when the Treasurer of the CPUSA came in from the cold and helped Ronald Reagan defeat the Red Menace. That is how Kennedy was discovered to be communicating with the Soviets.

Wow, very interesting replies here, Yes Islam needs grow quite a lot as did any other religion. Anyone remember the Crusades? Islam needs education, that's about it. Majority of muslims around the world are not educated therefore, they would follow any idiot with any idea. Rather than invading, they need to invest in education around the world, that's the only way to get rid of ignorance throughout the muslim world.
One more thing, hate and war is NOT the Islam way, and Jihad does not mean holy war. It means "to struggle"
to struggle against an oppressor, against poverty, against anything.
You also have to admit one thing, the media always will protray things that will benefit them in ratings, or whatever propeganda they wish instill on people.

How about 7/7? The Cole? Bali Bombings? 93 WTC Bombings? Glaskow Airport? Beruit?

The Jury is not out on 9/11 it did happen and was carried out by 19 muslim men. You are in Denial of what is happening around the world.

The French riots were Muslims. Spain's bombings before the elections were Muslims. The Europe is being invaded almost literally by Muslims who are extremeist. That is why they are setting up courts outside of European Law and useing Sharia Law.

There is a huge difference. Russia had enough weapons to annihilate most of the US.

Islamofascism, more correctly called Islamofarce, lacks enough power to seriously hurt the US. OBL is counting on his "tweaking the lion's tail" to cause the US to overreact and make enemies where we didn't have any. So far his plan is working - our lion has one paw in a bear trap called Iraq and the other paw on a landmine called Afghanistan. 9/11 was his tripwire...

If Bush was a football coach, he could rightly claim that, so far, he's been "outcoached".

It seems that the answers all always the same: "they hate us". I have yet to meet a Muslim in my life, that has declared hate for Americans. On the contrary, yet it is the foreign policies that Arabs, and most of the rest of the WORLD can't agree with. Those who believe this have no Muslim friends or neighbors. When the media uses propaganda to make people believe that Muslims hate Americans, they are definitely trying to scare people. It is similar indeed.

Our country is based on Christianity, whereas the Soviet was largely a secular nation (catholic too). Radical Islam is far more terrifying for people, especially Americans, because their goal is clearly the eradication of anyone who does not follow their religious ideals. The USSR simply wanted to succeed as the #1 world power. Islam wants to kill everyone.

nothing whatsoever. The thing that gets me is people still call other people commies. I think the term lost its teeth years ago.

2007-10-03 13:00:12 · answer #9 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Every country the "Commies" (Russians, Asians, etc.) ever lived in (when they occasionally ventured from home) they adapted to and assimilated into. Every country the Muslims lived in they lived insular separatist lifestyles, forced their host governments to give them special priviledges, they eventually seceded and are now at war with their former or current host governments. It's called jihad. Jihad is part of Islam. It's not part of communism. We base many of our positive working parts of society on ideals similar to communism but do it within a capitalistic structure. Such as religious organizations, welfare, charity, unions, and so forth. You can't say the same about Islam as they hate us.
