i got a one day trial for a job and was wondering if i wil get paid for it???

You'll get paid for it if you're kept on.
If not, well, it's just a trial.

Would you expect to pay hire charges for a car if you asked to take it for test drive and didn't want it?

It depends. In what capacity are you attending the trial?

Law firms usually send people to trials to take detailed notes of evidence, points of law, and summing up. People who are sent are always paid.
