hi davey, the athlon 64 x2 dual core 4200+ processor will run at its stated speed, however its dual core architecture means it can run more programs without any slow down
many people think that dual core processors mean that the clock speed will be twice of that rated,so yours would be 4.4ghz..not true
the reason your new athlon dual core cpu seems slower than your old celeron is because the dual core processors require a higher system memory, were as the celeron p.c,s were shipped with just 256mb ram,the athlon 64 x2 dual core 4200+ processor needs at least 1gb to perform correctly, this is why vista requires such as high memory spec, because most vista p.c,s are shipped with dual core processors
also your motherboard may require a bios flash(update),however check your motherboards manufacturers website to see if a update is nessecary
adding more memory will make your p.c smoother however not faster, more memory will also make multi tasking much easier(running 2 or more programs at the same time),multi tasking is were dual core processors come into their own
any problems let me know
good luck mate !

the most it will work at is 2.2 Ghz. If you are running an application that asks for more than then the second core can start processing the extra data.
So in effect although the speed doesn't increase, technically, the amount of through put of data is increased.
If you have a CPU that runs at a bazillion Ghz it will mean nothing if the RAM only operates at one snail per year. You need to check that the Front Side Bus, the RAM speed and the CPU speed are all running at the same speed to get optimum performance.

4200+ is AMD's "Performance Rating" and does not translate to Ghz. 2.2Ghz is the true clock speed.
If your motherboard is dual channel capable, a matched pair of 512mb should be fast for XP, 2x1Gb for Vista.

you're able to be able to desire to enhance your video card to play present day image video games. Your processor is super for abode windows 7 x64 - which could run on lots decrease appearing CPUs i'm protecting off on upgrading to Win7 till I also have a % for it. i'm researching that not all my previous gadgets have Win7 (or x64 of any style) drivers accessible.

The 4200 does not mean speed. It's just a model number. The speed is 2.2GHz

2 cores, each running at 2.2GHz.
AMDs numbering is all based on "equivalent P4" ie they think it would run as fast as a 4.2GHz Pentium 4.
More ram would help.
