Ok..so today at lunch me and my friends were at our table. Now my school has 600 kids, 3 whites, like 25 hispanic/latinos and the rest are black, so my only white friend was sitting with us. Now she's mad cool or whatever but today what she said was kinda insulting.
One of my other friends who is black was singing a Lil' Wayne song and she got to the part where she was about to say the n word and my white friend did it for her.
It was like everyone at my and nearbye tables stopped and everyone was yelling at her, several girls were about to fight them and I was angry as well.
I don't like the n word, I don't use it, I don't really mind when a black person uses it, seeing as we switched it around. But when a white person uses it I do get insulted. So my question is was I, and the rest of the people that got mad, wrong? My white friend seems to think so.

It really depends
No it's not wrong for you to get insulted because I don't use that word and if my friends used it I would be insulted and angry as well.
I don't think violence is the answer however but I can't blame you for that either because at my school if you use that word and you're not African-American you will have to throw down because we don't play that down here, so honestly I can't blame you or that would make me a hypocrite because I'd be pretty heated too and I don't know what I'd do.
Try talking to her and telling her what she did was wrong, and next time to keep that word out of her mouth.

As a mother of a teenager, I can say the the culture has become stagnant indeed. There is no creativity. It is follow the leader and very few leaders. Soulja boy...well. Listen to the music, it is so repetitive, everything is nearly the same. I am wondering how many more things is left the "crank". Superman, spiderman etc. Maybe we should start a video showing, Crank some respect for elders, crank that education, crank that career, we can throw a dance with it and our kids would be awesome. lol. Remember too how our parents said the same thing about us. I remember promising to be the cool mom, but I hear her coming out my mouth every day. Maybe there is just a new definition of cool...

I think that word is wrong period. But really if she was not calling any of you guys that word and it was part of the song. Then what was the big deal people can not get mad at some one for using that word if everyone around is using that word. Just answer one question? What makes it OK for one race to call each other certain words. But then they get offended if someone outside of the race calls them that word. I'm not only talking about black people. I'm referring to all race white people don't like to be called cracker and white bread, white trash. and Hispanic don't like to be called names that refer to there race. But its OK to use the word within the circle. No I personally would not call someone a name that I would not liked to be called. But I think The N word should not be used In any situation, you can call anyone that word and be using it in the right definition. Its only offensive because our society associates the word only to black people. That's were the word is being used wrong. so weather your black ,white,Hispanic or any other race you should not use words that are proceed as offensive within your race or outside. So to answer your question you all should have been offended if anyone would have used that word not just the white girl.I don't think she was trying to offend anyone she probably felt comfortable enough around you guys, that she did not feel that she was not going to offend anyone, the question is do you feel she was trying to insult you all or was she singing part of a song thats all over America.Because if you really feel she meant it in that way You don't need be friends with her and you should be offended if anyone(all races) even your own race used that word towards youor your race.

Firstly, let me say that the white kids are getting very brave in America if they're prepared to use the "n" word out loud in a school where they are outnumbered almost 200-1 by black kids!
Anyway, it's obviously wrong to use that word but in the context of the situation she might be forgiven. I don't know the song you mention but if it uses the word and your black friend started it then your white friend was merely singing along and probably didn't even think about it. If she had just used the word out of the blue then I could understand you being annoyed but in this case you might want to give her the benefit of the doubt.
At the end of the day you need to work out whether she used the word to be nasty and insulting or whether she was simply singing along to a song which she did not start and got carried away. Once you establish that then you can decide whether she's in the wrong or not.

As a black woman, I don't like to hear anyone use the n word- even other blacks. However, I would be offended to if a white person had the audacity to casually use a word that has caused so much hatred and pain toward an oppressed group in our society. It's bad enough that we use it but it is the ultimate insult when others use the word because they think they are "cool" or "down." These are the same people who do not share or understand our plight. It is really disrespectful.

It's 2007 come on people lets get over it.. Rappers, Actors, Etc that use the "N" word use it all the time and it's oky. Now I understand that what happened to African Americans a long time ago WAS HORRIBLE!!! AND IM SORRY, but it's just a word used in slang. why should it be oky for some ppl to use it but not others. I would understand if your "white" friend straight out called someone the "N" word, but she was just prob trying to sing along ( fit in ) and didn't think twice. I don't think you or your friends should ever go as far as wanting to beat the girl up. Just tell her how you feel in private, God knows there is enough Bit**y girls in high school and drama you guys don't need anymore.

Hmmm....why wasn't everybody gonna beat the hell out of the person playing the music with the word n*gger? Why isn't everybody going to Lil' Wayne's house to beat his *ss? Were you going to help your friend when she was going to get jumped (yes, most know she was going to get cowardly JUMPED), or did you just sit back like a traitor?
She likely didn't mean anything negative, as rational adults would have easily identified, and was just to stupid to realize she was surrounded by hypocritical, sensitive victim mentality children that look to start BS with a white person for any possible reason they can pull out of their *ss in this culture that so thoroughly encourages such pansy crap. Hopefully, you lost a good friend and she will learn a valuable lesson from what happened.

The N word, is an ignorant word when being said. No matter what color you are, I knew a few colored people who hated to use the word. I think it was wrong for her to use that word, because it was severely inappropriate. But it's nothing to fight over. Violence doesn't solve anything, just makes matters worse.
A person should be judged by what they do, not by the color of skin.

It's very difficult to *NOT* use the language that you hear all the time, with the people you hang out with. If your friend is hearing that word all day long coming from her friends mouths (in a joking way) she's going to say it to. And if she means it the same way you do, what does it matter?? She's not insulting you! She's trying to be part of the group, and one way you do that is talk like each other.
You can tell people that they can't say something, because they aren't a certain race, that's called RACISM. If she meant it in a bad way, then she shouldn't have said it. But it soudns to me like she didn't.
I hang out with most of the international kids at my school, and it's VERY difficult to go though the day without making some kind of joke or comment about each other. They do it to us, they say, "Because you're AMERICAN...." and we do it to them, "Because you're *insert nationality*..."
We should be proud of our races, but not so sensitive and ready for a fight.

Yes you were wrong
You should be offended by the N word no matter who say`s it . If you except it from a dark person but not a white person then you are being racist against whites,
You are treating a person of a different colour differently
Or except it as normal
"But when a white person uses it I do get insulted" racist statement

It was a song... and if black people use that word so often then don't get angry when another race uses it as well. Not saying it's ok to flat out call someone that but if it's used in the friendly context that you guys use it in then let it go.. besides she's your friend and you know she didn't mean anything by it.
