I found a good deal for an Athlon 6000 system. However, it comes with a low end M/B ( ASUS M2N-MX SE ). Would it be pointless to add a video card (ATI ASUS Radeon EAX1550 TD 256MB TV-OUT DVI).

Definitely NOT! A good video card should do wonders to your PC.
X1550 is just a budget graphics card. Although better than integrated graphics, it is still a low-end card. Better game performance starts at the Geforce 7300GT or ATI X1650 Pro level. If you want a DX10 card consider the cheap 8400GS or the 8500GT. Better performance comes from the 8600GT and GTS.

No, that should be fine. The board comes with a PCI-Express slot so there should be no problems. Just be sure to disable the onboard video. Some motherboards will do this automatically if it detects a different video card, but others require you to move a jumper.

asus is usually pretty good bout letting you turn off an onboard component,so id say go ahead and drop in the new board.as long as the motherboard is sufficient for your other requirements

usually its better to add a video card specially if you are a gamer... because the onboard video grabs a portion of your memory... unlike the video card (separate) it has its own memory.... it is also speed wise... just get the right drivers for your video card...
