"Racist" is a convenient abuse term to throw at someone when you cannot concoct a good enough argument to counteract theirs.

My dad worked all his life and payed tax. At 82 yrs he is now in a care home, in the next room is an Asian lady.
Both of them pay the same money to be there. So what?
She is treated better than anyone else in the home, why?
RACISM!!!!
She is the most obnoxious and complaining person I have ever met in my life and everyone is terrified of her complaining attitude. When I question the carers tolerance of her abuse I am told "shhh don't let anyone hear you, it is not worth my job".
This world has gone mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes. Not often.
The issue is this:
People who claim to be "stating the obvious" always tell one side of the whole story. Some state some facts, and some state bigoted, uneducated remarks. A racist will find every negative stat on every race except their own. They spew out crime rates and broken home rates yet never spew the surrounding factors that they never take the time to research.
Example; A certain group is 75% more likely to be arrested for commiting the same offense as their counter part of other cultures. Of course, after being arrested versus released like his/her counter part would have been, that individual now has an arrest record to overcome for the rest of his/her life. This is just one of the many stats that the racists never include with their comments. All people who make valid points are NOT racists. However, some are.

Racism is very real and evil! Our children are learning to hate at a very young age and whom are they learning it from; their parents that's who!
I was raised that if the person next door was sick, you done anything you could to help out. It dint matter if he is gay,or what color his skin is,or if he's just a *** hole! Always lend a helping hand or just a kind word could make someones day a little brighter instead causing so much hate!

You could reach the same conclusions about a demographic through impirical research as through prejudice - but, that doesn't mean the prejudice was 'right' - it'd be a coincidence, like a stoppd clock being 'right' twice a day.
And, yes, they do get confused.

Yes! Good point. When a person points out a negative behavior or an action about a certain type of race, they are accused of being racist. When in reality, there was no racial motivation. People should really learn and understand the definition of racism.

This is a good question. I tend to think racism HAS been confused with realism. While inappropriate to make decisions based on them, stereotypes evolve for a reason. As long as it's simple offering of opinions, I think there's nothing wrong with telling it like it is.

if the person has a basis in provable fact and looks at the circumstances of the siutation... then it's ok...
I find that most that are labled "racist" ususally don't do that though...
