Myths such as Paul Bunyan created the Grand Canyon come from the imagination.

You could try to answer the question of "Are penguins responsible for global warming in order to gain transportation to land masses?

Give your hero a name, create a scenario, even though it is very dubious, and tell your story....ending in "that's why we are now in the midst of global warming (or other phenomenon.)

Other stories might center on:
How spiders came to have webs.

Here's a start. A God got so angry about what was going on in his marriage he leaped off the turrent of his sky castle and landed on the north American continent. One foot on the east coast the other on the west coast. His weight cracked the continent right in the middle from what is now Minnesota all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. Today it's called the Mississippi river.

I wrote one for school about an artist who painted a beautiful portrait as a wedding gift to his wife. It was a beautiful portrait of her holding a beautiful flower that had never been seen before. She died on the day of their wedding, but when the artist went to her grave in the spring there were flowers covering her grave. The same flower that he had painted in her portrait, so he named the flower after his wife, Rose.

You could do something similar. Pick your favorite flower and just make up a random story as to its origination.
