The hard part is finding a critic that seems to share your views on movies you're already seen. I like Roger Ebert - even if he doesn't get into a certain movie, he judges it on what it intends. For instance, he doesn't like silly thrasher films, but he can go beyond that and tell you if it is likely to satisy fans of the genre. Otherwise, all you have to go on is the trailer, which is far less informative than a person that has seen the full movie. They lie to you! They give away the 2 or 3 only funny moments from a comedy. They made a drama look like it's going to be funny. They can make a movie look action-packed, when it turns out it's not [Jarhead]. The key is finding the right critic - please come back soon, Roger! Joel Siegel loves everything: why bother? Others think that only actionless foreign films are ever worth seeing - too limited. Find a critic you can trust, it can be like a friend tipping you off on what's garbage and what's a treasure (or maybe garbage, but FUN garbage!).

My mother does....she always bases what movie she sees on critics' reviews, however, I thankfully do not. I don't care whether a movie got a good one or a bad one because the critic doesn't know what kind of movies interest me.

If they said a movie was awful, it would depend on my interest in the movie, if it was something I was waiting for it to come in theaters, then I'd definitely still go see it. If I had no intention from the beginning of seeing it, then probably no, I wouldn't go see it.

Not usually. Like in the movie Casino. The critics tore that movie apart, but most of the complaint were based on comparisons to both Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsesse's other work together. Instead of taking the movie by itself for what it was, they were bringing Goodfellas and Raging Bull into their decision.

Anyone with half a brain shouldn't let critics decide what they should see. Critics, especially famous ones, get so numb to what is really good anymore. And they judge little kid movies with adult eyes. Yeah, parents have to suffer through them, but rate the movie through a kid's eyes you moron (critic)!

Not since "Sum of all Fears" got crticized..

Whoever wrote the review should go back to school.

First he asks where's the Taliban and Ben Ladden in it.

well only a idiot wouldnt know that the movie had finished filming nearly 6 months before 9/11 and Clancy refused to change subject just because of it.

there were some other points it made that i had to laugh at.

I nearly always disagree wtih critics.

A lot of times I dont agree with their reviews any way so I would still go and see the movie.
