Perhaps because the editors want someone who can push people to respond to questions. So they often reflect an extreme viewpoint in their coverage, to sell their stories.

no. if the media or mass media, news and syndicated TV and radio removed all traces of unnecessary violence then you would see the violent attacks fall.
IE: for each crazy criminal that tries or does get away with something sick, a copy cat style attacker will follow, if the media didn't hype it up and memorialize violent attackers this wouldn't happen.
how long until the next school shooting? seriously, i know its a bad topic to bring up, but there was just another one last week in Washington dc.
its wasn't Columbine or VT so, it wasn't overly blown up, but a campus shooting is a campus shooting.
