Liquid Nitrogen boils at -196 degrees centigrade.

The jug containing the nitrogen may have been on a bench in a room at room temperature but the contents most definitely would still have been at -196 deg.

Liquid Nitrogen is available from suppliers of specialty gases (eg Air Liquide) but usually only in commercial quantities for commercial or research purposes.

It is not something you can generally buy by just walking into a shop.

It also has medical applications being used for the removal of skin growths such as moles or warts.

Like any chemical, appropriate safety precautions are a MUST when handling. Chemicals are NOT toys and can be dangerous if used inappropriately.

Cheers :)

The jug of liquid nitrogen may have been standing in a room, but it was quite definitely not at room temperature.

You were in the room too presumably, but I bet your temperature was about 37 Celsius, not room temperature.

Contact Air Products, British Oxygen Company etc.

Liquid nitrogen boils at -196C. The jug was at that temperature, and not at room temperature!

It is a hazardous material, but most university science departments have some.
