I am in college getting a Ph.D for science. I wanted to know if you are smart or not.

First of all that questions smacks of arrogance. It's not the degree that makes you smart it's common sense. Answer me this question, what good is your Ph.D going to do you when you are out there on the street and something happens like say you get held up? Are you going to stand there and lecture the guy holding a gun to your head? Because you will be dead before you even start. There are plenty of people who do not have a degree who are smarter than people with a degree. It sounds like all you are is textbook smart. Well let me tell you it takes street smarts to go along with that also.
