Hi HAI H,

FTA receivers are perfectly legal. They do what the name implies. They allow you to receive Free To Air television signals.

The illegal part comes in when they are hacked to decode encoded TV signals. Most TV signals like HBO etc are broadcast scrambled so the FTA receivers will not get them. If you convert the receiver or have it converted to get these signals and decode then you are breaking the law.

i'm uncertain what might make a receiver unlawful. i be attentive to that the favored hacking fad various years in the past became to take the cardboard that plugs into the receiver and regulate it so as that it helps the receiver to get each and every of the channels without paying a penny for them. That grew to become a conflict wherein the satellite tv for pc company might say on sooner or later that their mods have been so smart that there can under no circumstances be hacking returned. 2 days later hacking became returned as much as the unique ranges. That went on for years until the electronics to hack required the hackers to have an entire pc dedicated to working the satellite tv for pc receiver. It additionally required the satellite tv for pc agencies to have an entire time application working to broadcast disabling instructions for any card that became no longer linked to a valid subscription. Is that the definition of an unlawful receiver?
