"I stand by the Door."
I stand by the door.
I neither go too far in, nor stay too far out,.
The door is the most important door in the world.
It is the door through which men walk when they find God.
There's no use in my going way inside, and staying there, When so many are still outside and they, as much as I,
Crave to know where the door is.
And all that so many ever find
Is only a wall where a door ought to be.
They creep along the wall like blind men, with outstretched, groping hands;
Feeling for a door, knowing there must be a door,
Yet they never find it...
So I stand by the door.

I did not write it. I found it in an old hymnal. Just wanted to know how people here felt about it.

Thank all of you for your answers. This has been a favorite of mine since I discovered it and again, I did not write this. I wanted to know what you felt was the meaning of why the person is standing by the door.

I remember the poem from my many years of bouncing from church to church. The door is akin to ones heart and the presumption is that Christ is knocking on the door of your heart and is waiting for you to answer it.

It's very though provoking, I actually read it 2ce. You made some very good points. I enjoy writing poetry also and liked it very much. I also like knowing the circumstances, mood, reasoning, etc. of the poet, to get an even better perception of where they are coming from. Good job.

I savor which you do what you're able to do to make a difference. particularly some human beings purely take a seat around and ***** (like myself). Your poem is fairly Utopian. properly, Utopian for usa. i'd truly choose to make certain all of that take place. in line with probability for a call: the real American Dream because of the fact regrettably the yankee Dream is in keeping with capitalism and mountaineering on the little human beings to get to the real. Kudos to you.

Very good but why don't you go through the door and lead others with you? Beautiful poem.

Very sad....I'm worried about all those people at the wall. Remember the "wailing wall"?? Is it still there? Reminds me of that. This is like a "Twilight Zone" poem. I've written poems/rhymes...I've put a few on Y/A...or parts of them that I remember.

WoW! That's pretty deep. When they finally find the door, you will be there to welcome them in. Or will they never find the door, as you said?
I loved the last several lines. Keep up the good work!

you have to read it thru a couple times to get the real point, that is, that everyone is looking for the true end, where there is happiness for eternity ,but you can hold back for a while
