..for someone who does not have any family in Canada? Thanksgiving being a family celebration, getting yourself invited to dinner at a friends place isin't exactly appealing either :-)

Not to sound preachy, but how about giving thanks for all you have by helping those who have nothing?

Call or write your family - yes, I think folks still enjoy a little snail-mail every now and again. Tell them how much they mean to you.

Often times, restaurants (particularly at hotels) will have dinners to cater to those who are away from family. They may also have other events to tie in with the holiday (perhaps a dance or show). I spent a Thanksgiving in Brazil one year, and the hotel held an American-style Thanksgiving feast - it was pretty good and I got to meet some cool people.

Why not go to a friends if you're invited? If a friend invites you to something as big as Thanksgiving dinner with their family, they may think of you as family too! I'd go if I didn't have my family in the area I was in if a friend invited me! It would be fun to see other family traditions!

make dinner for yourself and/or invite some people over to your place. i haven't spent thanksgiving with my own family in over 10 years and it's honestly OK . . . i like to cook and i like to have people in who also aren't with their families.
