Yesterday my car (Nissan Sentra 2004) was sputtering and i took it to the dealership. Well today they told me that it was MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor, and they had to replace it. Since my car was no longer under warranty , i would have to pay $500 just for the MAF sensor and $95 for the technician to install it and since i need my car soon, i agreed to the deal. Well after searching online i found MAF sensors that fit my car for $327(new) at Auto Parts. Any suggestions on whats my best option is (I'm on a tight budget), I plan on picking up the car and paying for everything tomorrow?

Well the guy at the dealership told me that the part alone (MAF sensor) would cost $500. For example, couldn't i ask them to see the receipt for the MAF sensor that they installed? If they show me that they actually payed $500 for that part, then i wouldn't have a problem, but if they bought it for $327 (for example) and the rest they keep for themselfs...?

Sue them???? What the hell is wrong with you? Are you seriously considering legal action because a retail outlet overcharged you?

No wonder our court system is so screwed up.

They didn't lie to you; they just gave you their price. Like any other product, a MAF costs a different price depending on where you get it and how much the seller wants to charge you. It is the same as when you bought your car: If you had gone to a different dealership or car lot, you might have gotten a higher or lower price.
There is really nothing you can do about it now. Before you agreed to have them do the work, you might have been able to buy the cheaper part and have them install it, but now it's too late.

You waited too late. You should have bought the part at the cheaper price and had them install it. You have to pay the price now. You agreed. They didn't lie, they told you the prices up front. They pay extra for shipping etc and handling fees that smaller companies don't pay and the price is higher. Buyer Beware. Plus dealerships ALWAYS charge MORE>

I can sell you a penny for $100.00 if you are willing to pay.

You weren't under warranty. You could have shopped around. You are paying more for your immediate service. If you had to wait and shop around and order a part online you could easily have spent $175.00 in taxis or car rentals.

You can ask them to reduce the price. They may or may not.

EDIT: It's called mark up and perfectly legal.

Its too late now since you agreed to the terms. Auto repair places generally mark up their parts 100% so it probably cost them 250.00.

How did they lie to you. They told you what it was and you agreed to let them fix it!

I don't think you have a leg to stand on, however, that's just me!
