I had to replace my compaq tower with an HP tower, but can't get my GeForce Fx5200 video card to even be detected (yeah I know its not a great card, but I'm poor). Do they just not work with HP's? Its an HP Pavilion a1210n tower. Anyone know?

I can't find anything on the HP site about disabling the onboard card. And I know nothing about BIOS

It all depends on the motherboard. If its an old motherboard, it might not be compatible with the new card. Many new motherboards have compatibility issues as well. Make sure you install the CD and drivers the card came with. Make sure you connected the card to the right slot, and the right way.

The manufacturer has absolutely nothing to do with this.

Why did you get that card? You can get a $50 gaming card that is almost 200x faster and more powerful.

Also, many motherboards only support ATi cards, and vice versa for nVidia.

There are two possible causes:
You did not install it right (did not install CD/drivers, or hooked it up wrong)
The card is just purely incompatible with your motherboard.

Install the CD, if that doesn't work you need a different card.

Also! Make sure you power supply can handle the card, and make sure you connected the card to the power supply. Many power supplies cannot handle more powerful or newer cards.

you have built in video on that model and need to disable the built in video system in the BIOS. Pls check the support section of HP.com for your model number and then "troubleshoot" the video/monitor subsystems. You'll see a link in there that tells you how to disable the built in video.

after that, the directions for the NVidia card should work fine.

You have to disable your onboard graphics in bios first. then uninstall all the graphics drivers and software for your onboard video or old card save & exit and shut down Reboot and install your 5200 drivers if windows did not already do it.

As long as you have the right video card type install in the right slot then it should work.

I don't know what wrong with GeForce but they are good for entry level graphic card.
