Are you referring to macrame? This was a popular craft in the 70s and is making a comeback.
If this is what you are referring to, go to your local public library and ask the staff for some books. There may be some older books on the shelves on macrame, but there are some newer ones out as well with more contemporary patterns and projects.

I have seen various knots labelled and framed for sale in chandlers shops. Should be easy enough to make if you can find a box type frame.
