Birds can't see the earth's magnetic field, but some species can nevertheless sense it[1]. And not just birds either. Apparently some bees, fish, and even bacteria also have internal magnetic compasses as well[2].

A magnetic field certainly contains energy (lines of force) and it may very well be possible that birds can "see" that energy.

I think there is a theory that birds can somehow "feel" those lines of force. It may be that magnetic particles within the bird react to those lines of force something like our eyes react to the energy in light

I think lots of experiments have been done in this field

No living thing can 'see' the earth's magnetic field, but there is fairly good evidence that birds react to it when 'setting their migratory course'.
Something, at any rate, guides the birds so that they end up at the same place summer and winter (at least birds that migrate) after a flight of many thousands of miles.

♦ No, all birds have acute eyesight; they just remember landscape they are flying above twice a year; so they don’t take Earth’s magnetic field into account while navigating;
♣ there is an exclusion – geese; they were suspected to sense magnetic field because they travel mostly above 30000 ft and mostly in the night and cannot see distinctly; yet it occurred they feel direction of Earth’s rotation and partly use position of stars in the clear sky, not magnetic field; but this is another story;

IT'S POSSIBLE GOD MAY HAVE GIVEN THEM THAT ABILITY BECAUSE THEY CERTAINLY FIND THEIR WAY BACK TO WINTERING GROUNDS IN THE FALL AND NESTING GROUNDS IN THE SPRING.
