That doesn't involve taking a cab.

Walk about two or three blocks west to Halstead and catch the bus going south.

Or you could catch the No. 20 bus that stops right in front of the train station, go west to Halsted and then transfer to the number No. 8 halsted bus. It will cost $2 if you get a CTA bus card inside the train station, $4 without the card ($2 for each bus).

Either way, the halsted bus goes right to the middle of the UIC campus.

It depends on which campus. For east campus, you can take the 60, 38, or 7 bus. You can also take the Blue line to UIC Halsted.
For west campus, you can take the 38 or 7 bus. You can take the Blue line to Medical District or Pink Line to Polk St.

Honestly, I would just walk. It wouldn't be worth the 4 dollars to pay for the 20 and then the 8 once you get to Halsted. But if you are trying to get to the South Campus dorms or anywhere relatively far down Halsted, you wouldn't just be being lazy if you took the Halsted bus (#8). I would recommend that once you got off the bus you walk west down Madison (or Washington) and once you get to Halsted (you'll have to cross Halsted) wait for the southbound #8.

Blue Line? I think the Blue Line el train should take you there. You might have to walk a block to Clark to get it but the Blue Line may be your best bet.
