My dogs are trained to go on command. This will work to get your dogs to 'go' in a specific spot. first, stop letting them go in the yard by themselves for a while. Take them out on a leash to the spot you wish them to use (around the time they usually go) and as they get ready to go (squat, circle, etc) give them a command ( I use "Find a Spot!"). Once they go, praise the bejesus out of them and give them a small treat. Keep reapeating this until they go pretty quickly on the leash. Now start going w/ them to the spot w/ out the leash. Repeat the command and praise portion. Pretty soon they will get that "going" in this one spot is a good thing. Also, as their scent fades from the rest of the yard, they will be more inclines to use their "toilet" area as dogs tend to go in similar spots. Good luck and be patient!

Training is the best way. My dogs go in a certain area and they pee or poo on command, but I started when they were puppies. If you want to train them then you will have to commit to the time and effort, but the outcome is well worth the trouble. You'll have to take them out on a leash everytime they go potty, take them to a single location where you want them to go, and while they are there constantly repeat the word potty or whatever word you want to use for the command. Once they have gone potty then praise them lavishly with "Good Potty...Good girl/boy...good potty" and before long you will be able to just let them out, say potty, and they will go where and when they are supposed too. It sounds like a lot, but well worth it.

However, if none of this appeals to you then you can purchase pheromone stakes that are supposed to entice a dog to urinate or defecate in the area of the stakes. I've never tried this.

Good Luck

EDIT: I would just like to clearify that going to the bathroom on command does not mean that my dogs only go when I want them too. My Dogs go when they want to go, but I can also tell them when to go when the occasion arises. Like on long car rides or when the Vet needs a fecal or urine sample for example. It also allows me to leave them in the house alone during nasty weather or what-not and I don't have to worry about them peeing or pooing in my house. My dogs only need to ask to go out, but unlike a lot of people all I have to do is say "Potty" and they go right then and there. No waiting in the cold or wet for them to decide where they want to go.

Get a chain or leash and a metal stick
put the leash on the stick and put the stick in the ground. Make the leash as long as youw ant so it only reaches the areas you want them to go in.

If your dogs have too wait to go to the bathroom on demand! sounds kind of cruel, imagine if you could only go on demand.

Lots of different training proceedures
get a shock collar, and when you see em squat, shock them
put their nose in it, my mom thought that worked
whip them with newspaper, it doesn't hurt them but makes them really sad
