I have a Hyundai Elantra. When i pull the lever to open the hood from the inside of the car nothing really happens.
The safety latch, that you use to open the hood on the outside works fine. But when i close the hood, the second latch, which is sort of on the inside, doesn't seem to engage all the way, and the hood doesn't completely close.

Make sure the second latch engages before driving, you can easily have that hood come flying up if the second latch doesn't latch.

Has the vehicle had any front end work done on it? If the hood doesn't latch well it sounds like the front end may have been fixed or repaired?

Spray some lubricant WD 40,on the latch inside the engine compartment, and pull gently the interior latch a few times, that might help, good luck!

there's no purpose to take the possibility of cooking the engine via utilising driving it 20 miles! The least of your concerns is the hood, what we are speaking approximately is saving the engine. even though it's going to already be cooked as in warped head and perhaps fairly some cracks in the block.

Clearly sounds as if your latch has 'sunk' and needs to be raised in it's mounting.

my dad had had the same problem. just take it to a mechanic and he should fix it in under a minute. it should not cost you anything.
