I have an appointment in two week and that will be the start of my 9th week of pregnancy (I will be 8 full weeks). I was really hoping to hear a heart beat. I don't "feel" pregnant yet, and I was told hearing the heart would give me that "feeling".

Thanks for your help!!

If they don't give you an ultrasound then you won't hear the baby's heartbeat at 8 weeks. You can't hear it with an external doppler until 11-12 weeks or later. I first heard my baby's heartbeat at 11 weeks, 2 days, and the doctor said that with the doppler, there was only a 50/50 chance of hearing it before 12 weeks.

To be honest, I didn't have my first appointment until I was 18 weeks.. and I only SAW the heartbeat. The first time I ever heard it was when I was 23 weeks... so my experience doesn't really matter, does it? You might be able to hear the heartbeat at your appointment, it is pretty likely. Good luck and congrats!

With my first pregnancy, I was 33 weeks along before the doctor heard the heartbeat. They did not use ultrasound, just a fetascope.

I had a transvaginal ultrasound at 7 weeks, 3 days and was able to hear the baby's heartbeat that way.
