Vermont meets all those critereia. The old architecture is beautiful and picturesque. It also isn't covered with chain stores like most of the US, making it very quaint, visiting the local general stores.

In Canada, where I live, up in the top of a tall spruce tree when its a little windy, in the USA, the top of Blue Mountain in the Adirondacks.

the new hampshire, vermont area- it has lovely little towns, beautiful scenery, great people
