If the UK is a mediterranean country, it is also a tropical country (St. Helena), a south atlantic country (Falklands) and a south pacific country (Pitcairn). But in the same way France is a south sea state (Tahiti) and Denmark the biggest state in Europe (Greenland).
There is a difference between Mainland and Overseas Territories.
May I remind you that New Zealand was once British, but that did not make Britain an austral country.

Absolutely not. The UK may own territory that borders the Mediterranean, but the country itself does not touch that sea. France's national borders touch the Mediterranean, however, so it's a Med. country.
