Another less interesting way to say the same thing would be:

If we weren't so focused on making good cars for our customers, we wouldn't have any customers interested in buying our cars.

If you are not responsive to the needs of the customers and meeting those needs, then the customers are going to find someone who is.

(hence.. no sales-> no salaries -> no money to buy your gas..etc..)
