How do we know if the dealer did a good job rust proofing our cars?

Question

I took my car to the dealership to have it rust proofed. How do we know if the dealer did a good job or not? I looked underneath my car, and I dont see much of that black tar rust proof at all.... Hardly any.

So , some tips on how to know whether or not it was a good job would be nice.

as far as undercoating is concerned you should have the wheel wells done, all the frame work done and pretty much everything but exaust, heat shield and drive shaft.

and you can not undercoat a car yourself...it is a messy messy job and even with a big car lift you still get it all over you. you would need a car lift and great lighting to do it yourself.

Well I happen to do rust proofs for 2 dealers in my town. There are 2 products used when rustproofing. If you just get a rustproof then you should not see any black the rust proof is a carmel colored liquid that gets sprayed in the fenders inside the doors and hood. And also sprayed on all seems like on the doors and trunk lid and such. To check for that just pop the hod and look in the holes in the hood you should see a carmel or yellowish color in the holes. Then in the front fenders put you hand in teh front of the fender by the light assembly and you should feel it there. In the doors look on the bottom of each door and youy shuold see at least 2 drain holes make sure they didnt plug the holes but you should see some residue in there. As far as the black stuff that you are talling about that it self has no anti rust inhibitors in it. It is sold now as a sound proof or inhibitor. To be honest the whole thing is a joke I onmly do it because it is easy money for me and I have no obligations to it they just pay me a flat labor rate to spray it on it is all thier product and equipment. Basically you are just paying for a warranty. But read it close that last time i read one of those it mentiond that the rust had to start in side and work its way out. Well I cant remember the last car I have seen that has rusted from the inside. Most rust is due to a piant chip or something. If the did do the rust and sound treatment then anything under the car that is metal should be sprayed black except for the exhaust and heat shields. Find out which package you got. The ones I do are called RONCO package and that is the whole thing the other one is called a MICHIGAN package and that is only the rust proof and no black. Hope this helps good luck

Do you live in very wet or snowy conditions? If not, I wouldn't worry about it.

I hope you didn't pay much to get the service done. The underbody coating is relatively inexpensive and can be applied by yourself.

Basically, you should look for exposed metal areas. If the car is already a few years old, then rust would have already started in those exposed areas. If you don't see any rust, then you should be fine. FYI the exhaust system is never coated. It can reach over 1400 degrees and the coating would melt off.

I've been in auto body repair for 40 years.In that time,I've cut open and seen first hand the undercoat jobs that have been done on untold vehicles.I have never seen one done anything close to the way it should be done to be of any benefit.It's a service that even trained personnel can't do well enough to help.
The one and only way to see for yourself is to remove the door trim panel or maybe a fender liner.But,you're not going to do that and everyone knows it.Even if you did they would have some weak excuse for doing a bad job.

True for most people but some people don't care what others think and they just make mistakes but I think it is too do with confidence and if someone makes a mistake they may feel embarrassed or that someone might make fun of him/her. Although some people don't learn from their mistakes..
