It would mean that energy required to pull another electron toward oxygen to make it a -1.

The closer the element is to the Noble gases, the more happy it becomes, so oxygen wants 2 electrons to be at a "stable" energy state.

The 1st energy state would mean it attracted 1 electron, and since electrons are negatively charged, it gives the element itself a negative charge

making it O2 ^-1

of course oxygen would be more happy if it were O2^-2 ( its noble gas configuration) but in its first level of electron affinity, it will take the one. This would make it the equivelent as Fluorine, as fluorine has 7 electrons.

The first electron affinity is the energy given out when a mole of electrons is added to a mole of gaseous oxygen atoms (not molecules).
