Let x=how much she saves.
Let 4x=how much she spends
Amount saved + amount spent=30
So, x+4x=30
5x=30
x=6(amount saved)
4x=4(6)=24 (amount saved)

So she saves "s" pounds, and spends "4s" pounds. The total of "5s" pounds equals 30, so "s" must equal 6 pounds.
