If I am offered this job then I will not be able to give any notice. I work in a small office and they count on me. I feel really bad about it but I really need a new job....better pay and all. Plus I am not able to move up in the company I currently work for. My boss is a little bit of a hot head. How do I tell him without making him upset and everyone else I work with as well?

Just tell him you found a job that you have a chance at advancements, there you have a no chance to move up (dead end job, don't tell him that, but it sounds like that's what it is) plus the pay is better, hard to pass that up......good luck...........

Wait till Friday 2pm and then ask if you can talk to him privately.

Tell him you've had a job offer for more money, they want you to start immediately, but you feel obligated to be here--can he match the salary they're offering.

This gives him a counter move, he can decide if he wants to pay you more (likely not) and it looks as if you are waffling (even if you aren't). By doing it at 2pm, this avoids any drag out 'she's leaving' for the rest of the week till you do leave.

Find out what vacation pay may need to come to you, get your stuff inorder before 2pm and just tough it out. At least that only gives you 2 hours left on a Friday before it's all over. Don't wait later than 2pm or it'll look bad on you.

Write a really nice resignation letter explaining your situation, apologizing for the abrupt notice, expressing your gratitude for the opportunity you have given you, and wishing them the best. If that doesn't work, then nothing will. Either way, this is the official, professional way of leaving a job... but then again, so is giving two weeks notice. But if you can't, you can't. Give them the letter and move on. Good luck!

Give them as much notice as possible. Offer to train your replacement when they find one. May have to be evenings and weekends. You should leave on good terms, you may need a reference form them one day.
