No I do not believe so. I think it's a good thing when people make eye contact, and invading personal space is a bad thing.

No, but our 'eyes are the mirrors of our souls' so we are very conscious that what we are thinking at the time will be reflected in our eyes. This may be about the subject we are discussing or how we feel about the person we are looking at. Shyness has a lot to do with looking away too.

Even in the animal kingdom, the "staredown" is perceived as aggression. Persistent failure to avert your eyes (at least momentarily) makes human beings uncomfortable as well. In other words, taking a break from "locking eyes" is just part of learning socially appropriate interaction. It's a delicate social "dance" of balancing eye contact with periodic averting of the eyes.

When someone looks at you in a conversation and then looks away for a short period of time it's because of a level of discomfort that has been breeched. Usually the more confident that you are the less discomfort you feel. Usually when people look away often it's because of them being self concious, and unsure of themselves.
