I know about corgi rules etc. However my problem is stange and intermittent. Sometimes when the boiler lights it makes a strange noise like it ignihts again three times and the flame does flicker. Any suggestions what it is and any solutions on how to solve it. The boiler was cleaned/seviced sometime back I supose a year now.

Get a Corgi engineer, and get it serviced, this is nothing you are allowed to do yourself. Your Corgi engineer will have all the tools and equipment needed to diagnose the problem

you need a new control unit just fixed 1 same problem its the ignition rectification unit its not picking up the pilot flame properly so opens and closes the gas valve quickly and yes the 1 i did was an intermittant fault , when you get the corgi fitter to change the board get him to change the electrode and lead as well ,

p.s board is about £100 +vat

You wrote , the boiler was cleaned and serviced.
Did you see the engineer clean the heat exchanger by push and pulling a cleaning rod between each of the 30 or so fins and removed and inspected all of the jets?
Don't think this was done because the bloke (woman) told you so. customers always say this, but you can tell its has not been done. Your answer to you problem is on www.diynot.com

Sounds like you have "Slowignition" and is likely to be a faulty Gas valve.
