A hormone

2007-10-03 09:24:04 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

It is a hormone produced by both genders but it is the one that is most closely associated with male traits. Size, strength, sex-drive, appetite, aggression, body hair, and in the end, once it declines, the loss of these things. Lots of men take Testosterone supplements (illegal in professional sports) for medical purposes and so do women, but not to the same extent, and for vastly different reasons. It is the male equivalent of Estrogen (we make that too). The two strike a balance in most people but the balance is not 50/50. Women have more E. Men have more T, but they work together. Sometimes that balance has to be helped out medically, but Testosterone is more frequently abused and regretted. Estrogen is abused also, usually by older women and for different reasons. I hope this helps.

It is the male hormone that is secreted into a males system on a daily basis, it controls mood, sex drive, energy levels, weight gain/loss, muscle mass and hair loss or growth. If your having any problems with any of these areas, because your moody, tired, gaining weight, lack of sex drive, try having your "testorsterone total" levels checked, if they are low, you may need hormone therapy, which will make you feel like your a teenager in your prime again, I am a nurse and I have seen men that have testosterone levels drop as low as the age of 18, so it's not unheard of to be young and have dropping levels already. Thats a common misconception! Hope this helped!

It is considered the male hormone. It is responsible for the development at puberty of the sex characteristics that are usually associated with the man such as deep voice, facial hair, greater muscular development, & the fat distribution in men. It is also essential for normal sexual functioning.
