Kind of like the button that pops out on some Thanksgiving turkeys when it's done... it is to let you know when your girlfriend is "done" being outside and to take her indoors and warm her up!

Hey, Jon, I haven't been on lately, because I really have had to much to do; however, when I saw you had a question, I knew it would be good. Well, I don't really know how I would confront your brothers and sisters. How do you tell a blind person what the color blue looks like? How do you tell a deaf person what a bird's song sounds like? You can't make someone who is blind and deaf to beauty, much less logic, change his/her ways. I suggest praying for them. Also, I would ask that you inquire into the "least of these." I assume you know what I mean. Ask your brothers and sister what they should do about the least of these. Do they truly believe that they are to simply ignore the poor and oppressed until the poor and oppressed come to know Jesus? Love has to start somewhere. Have they ever read Micah 6:8? "He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God." People have a tendency to ignore what directly contradicts their views. Your friend, Emerson

It's the same reason you get goose bumps. Your skin (not just nipples) tightens up to try to keep warm. If we had fur or feathers, they would fluff up and trap air, adding to the warmth of the calories being burned by tightening the skin.

When your body senses low temperatures, all functions are focused towards the major organs, while extremities receive less blood flow.
So when you're cold, you get goose-bumps (sweat gland shutting down) and hard "chestular" glands.

Stimulation or sexual arousal can cause the nipples to become erect, due to the release of the polypeptide neurotransmitter oxytocin. Breastfeeding or exposure to cold temperatures often has this effect as well.
