Why do some people stare at others?
Do they not realise how bad it looks and how uncomfortable it makes people feel?!

Ahh sometimes I start daydreaming or go into a deep thought and I realize I have been staring at someone, I feel stupid afterwards.

Look, I'm sorry okay? I didn't mean to. It's just that top? with THOSE slacks? I don't think so.

Sorry, just had to do that. Seriously. You are right. If I see somebody staring my way (unless at a demonstration, and then I know the intentions are not friendly) my first thought is never one of being flattered. My first thought is one of discomfort. I look for the toilet paper on my shoe or something like that. When I see there is none there, and I haven't sat in wet paint or something, then I really get uncomfortable.

I know, we had these guests over today and i was in the back of the car with this girl and i could feel her staring at the side of my head the whole time.

I find it uncomfortable and i just don't know what to do with myself in those situations! I don't think a lot of people realise they do it though.

Artists stare to appreciate the beauty of what they see, that should not make you uncomfortable, take it as a compliment, I do. I am an artist though.
Not everybody in the world look at people as if they just were representing a working potential... or else.

i think people stare at others for a few reasons...one, because someone may look familiar to them -- even strikingly, perhaps! (this actually happened to me on the subway -- some gal was a dead ringer for a friend of mine!). two, the starer might be very deep in thought & just staring blankly (although you may not see it that way) & actually not even thinking about you while looking directly at you! three, you may be wearing something they like or have a unique hairstyle that they find interesting. four, the starer may find something about you: odd, attractive or repulsive (and that's just human nature). persoally, i don't think most folks do it on purpose to make people uncomfortable, etc.

I try not to, sometimes I am not really looking at the person, I am thinking about something else. Or they reminded me that I needed to do something else, such as call a friend or family, or I need to wash my clothes. Sometimes I stare because I am looking at the clothes, I like to sew and I am trying to see if I could make it. I am not doing it to judge anyone, because Lord knows I am no way perfect.

some people can't help viewing an object at length; i say this because some poeple have a hard time focusing, or perhaps are startled or entranced/in awe by something.

that is why I stare back until they notice and then I make a face at them.
