I want to start as early as possible reading out loud so my baby's brains develope normal and sharp inside of me. Are there books at the library i can get? Please provide names, authors etc. Thanks a million in advance. Brenda.

It's so wonderful that you want to do right by your baby, but the reality is, the best thing you can do right now to help your baby develop is to eat well, get enough good protein, and love and be loved by your hubby. Speak loving words to your little one.
Parenting magazines and books have long, endless lists of things we parents should do every day to make your child the smartest person there is. There isn't enough time in 10 days to complete all of the things that only take 20 or 30 minutes a day, every day. The best advice I can give is to stay away from them altogether - in parenting, you have to live by your wits. And just like marriage, you really can't throw your whole heart and soul and mind and spirit into it if you are busy doing everything by the book. Parenting is a leap into thin air when you don't even know how to fly. The wind rushes past your ears, you panic, you almost hit the ground and suddenly, you stretch your wings, and the most amazing things happen.
While I'm on the subject, the books and magazines also have endless lists of the right things to teach, right ways to discipline, etc., etc., etc....
Here is how you parent: Use your common sense, brains and heart to help your child be exactly who God intended him to be. The world has enough smart people and more than enough people who think they are smart. The world does not have enough compassion, love,empathy or caring. It's okay to make parenting mistakes. If you love your child, you will find it necessary to discipline, even occasionally to the point of a spanking. It is okay and necessary to allow your child to fail, which he will, and regularly. A lot like his parents, in fact.
Mostly, encourage him and allow him to be who and what he is. Help him to develop these things.
When he is old enough to sit up. That is when it is time to start reading books. Until he is five, do not expect more than about 1 minute of attention span per year of age. It is okay to finish the book even if he isn't sitting on your lap paying attention.
For everything, there is a season. Human beings have been reproducing for thousands of years, and millions of perfectly brilliant people have been born to people who did not have technology, access to written material, in fact, to people who wouldn't have known what to do with a book if they had one. Even in our country, the majority of the population has known how to read for only about 120 years. Somehow we have gotten on, in many cases brilliantly, all this time. We fail brilliantly most often when people don't recognize their value or especially the value of others. Teach him that.

I read the Harry Potter series, Ender's Game series, and Battlefield Earth when I was pregnant. It's best to stick to long series or long books so that time will seem to go a little faster or you can get engrossed in the tales and forget about all of the nasty little pregnancy symptoms.
