"directly"...

tough to call. most symbols have been run through a human and societal litmus test to detirmine and fine tune their meaning.

without giving any meaning to them...some things that can easily become symbols through a mystical, religious, philosophical experience...can be called out...

pyramids, cubes, spheres, (hedrons in general)
numbers
magic numbers
animal totems
colors
geometrical shapes (circles, lines, squares, etc, triangles, etc.
elements (water, wood, earth, rock, wind, rain, air, water, etc.)
astrological events or patterns...

there are many books on them...but to differentiate how "direct" they come from the divine is very difficult.

Tough question!

Hi Rena,
There are so so many symbols representing different things and it all depends on culture too, even though you speak of the Universal mind. So symbols that mean one thing to one person should mean the same for everyone. When doing my Reiki training I had to learn symbols and these symbols are used during healing but personally I believe just like in dreams, symbols mean different things to different people and are just used in such practices to focus the mind. This can be done too without the use of symbols.

Some of my sculptures are probably from there because they are non figurative, yet seem to strike a chord with most people.
