A teacher said this?? FYI : I am brown not white or black I think most people will agree. My family today was either born in MX or USA. I haved a mixed bloodline just like a lot of people or should i say most. I have french/Spanish/Aztec..My great-great grandfather was french and from my other side of the family another was full spanish, but all lived in MX I might even have some german blood accordingly to my grandmother, but we dont know for sure yet..I have been trying to trace my family roots so I always ask questions and research when i go to MX. Either way in my family wether we look completely white, are light skinned, or have dark brown skin color we still consider us brown or mexican..

DENO: ??? no but you are somewhat judging "immature" yes i was immature in middle school like any teen thats no reason to teach something like that we were all aware of our race & color..&& asked WHY?!?! As the "immature ones" we obviously knew more then him on that matter.

Your teacher is misinformed and illiterate.
There are Black people, White people. Indian people... Asian people... All are different and unique. Even within their own unique ethnic group there are differences!

Hispanic is considered an ethnicity, not a race. For example, you can say you are hispanic of mexican origin, but you consider your race to be black. White and black are not ethnicities, because you will see puerto-rican people that look black, some look white, some are brown. Same with italians and a lot of other races.
Race and ethnicity in the United States Census, as defined by the United States Census Bureau and the Federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB), is a self-identification data item in which residents choose the race or races with which they most closely identify.
Race and ethnicity were considered separate and distinct identities, with Hispanic origin asked as a separate question. Thus, in addition to their race, all respondents are also categorized by membership in one of two ethnicities: Hispanic or Latino, and Not Hispanic or Latino.

Ok. Easy answer is that your teacher is a moron.
More complex answer is that there is an existing theory of evolution that indicates that our origin (man kinds that is) started in Africa (meaning we were all black at one point). Tribes then seperated and during the last Ice Age, man kind adapted and evolved with it's surroundings. In other words, due to the cold tempratures, man's pigmentation started to change.
While in other parts of the world others stayed exactly the same. Remember that the planet at that time consisted of 1 super continent.
Hope this helps (somewhat).

With the way the world is today there is no right answer. There are the main ethnic groups, and you would probable follow your fathers side as the ethnic groups, that's what most people do, unless there is a great difference..ie..father Chinese-mother black and you are dark and little to no Chinese features.

Wow, anybody can get a teaching license. Your teacher is being idiotic and need to take some more courses in geography and sociology. Maybe she had a bad day or needed to clarify herself better.

I am reading into 'black and white' as 'good and bad' not gauged towards the color of ones skin. Similar to when I was in boot camp we were taught that everyone was green, there was no difference.

Maybe your taking this out of context. Was she saying that people are always on one side or the other on the issues at hand?
Yeah, Aztec, sure. And I'm part Kachina Indian.

Because your teacher is either uninformed or she mis-spoke. I would ask your teacher where Mexicans, Native Americans, Asians, and everybody else fits it. Ask her to please clarify. Be armed with your own research so you can have a healthy discussion.

I don't know the context in which this was said but you should report this teacher. That is one of the most ignorant things that I have ever heard and the fact that this person is tasked with educating America's future, is frightening. This person should not be a teacher.
Please don't tell me it was your biology teacher.
