Yeah, there's really no way for your OB/GYN to know for sure without doing an ultrasound. If you feel you have them and he won't refer you, then find another doctor! I had a follicular cyst burst and was in so much pain that I went to the ER. They did the ultrasound and told me what had happened. Don't wait too long!

Only a transvaginal ultrasound could reliably show ovarian cysts. Ovarian cysts may not be large enough to be felt on exam. Besides that, the exam may not be done at the right time in your cycle to feel the cysts, whereas the TVUS is always scheduled between the 8th and 14th day of your period when the ovaries would be the most visible.
If you have symptoms that could be from ovarian cysts, you need a further work-up.
It really isn't true that they could positively feel the cysts on exam. Ovarian cancer can't even be detected from a manual pelvic exam by the doctor most of the time!

Sometimes a cyst comes with your cycle, disappears, and then next month another one appears. If you went to your Dr. between cycles, then he probably saw nothing. If you have a lot of pain during your cycle he may have thought it was just cramps, and not a cyst. A second opinion is a good idea if you are in pain. They can order a sonogram to investigate further.

Hello I literally just had key hole surgery to remove my apendix but after going in it turns out my appendix was slightly inflamed but I had a cyst that had burst on my ovaries. ALL of the signs and symptoms all pointed towards appendicitis. There is only one way of finding out for sure and that is surgery. In saying that the doctors cleaned up my ovaries and still removed my appendix. My pain scale right now is about a 8 out of 10 but im glad its all done and sorted. So technically I experienced both. Not a pleasant thing and I dont wish upon anyone. If you have concerns speak to your GP about it.

you could request an ultrasound.... Usually ovarian cysts are eggs that did not burst..... Most are benign and most eventually recede. When it becomes otherwise a gyno should be able to feel them upon a pelvic exam.

when a gynecologist does your pelvic exam, he can feel the ovaries, and a cyst or many of them are very noticeable. I suspect that if he didn't feel them (the cysts) when he did your pelvic exam, then there aren't any. But you certainly have the right to insist, if your health insurance will cover it for your peace of mind.

ur right bout it. U need an Ultrasound. Wat makes you think you have cysts? Is there any history? Do u have pelvic pain?
You need a positive history bc its not a condition that can go without symptoms. Probably the Gynae already asked you that.
Nevertheless if you insist, get an U/S.

Depends on the size of the sucker, they can do blood work, but an ultrasound would help. You may want to see another doctor as well.

Yes, this is why you go to the OBG...well lets put it this way...when they feel around and push down your stomach...what they are checking for is lumps. first thing they would do is give you a pregnancy test to make sure it's not a etopic pregnancy (tubal pregnancy) if you're not pregnant then they would send you to the hospital for an ultrasound to see what the lump was.

Unless you have an MRI or sonogram, the doctor will not notice them. You will probably know before anyone else. You would experience a sharp pain on the low front side of your abdomen.
