I was having a conversation with my friends about what are the Four Criteria that makes a country a country.
We talked about -- Cannon be claimed as part of another country, protecting borders, having an elected government, collecting taxes and a few others.
We kept coming up with exceptions to these examples, like Taiwan, or the Vatican. Can someone come up with a list of 4 things that define a country as opposed to a state, colony, region, etc.
Thanks

I would go with a) centralized government (things like "manages infrastructure" and "collects taxes" are absorbed into this, b) protects defined borders, and c) maintains a population that collectively believes in a "national identity".
