Any day now, really, just in case there is an emergency or contractions start earlier than expected.

I fit everything I needed into a "carry on" size bag. A change of clothes for coming home, clean underwear and socks, nursing bra and gown, toiletries and Kotex (for postpartum bleeding).

For my husband - the camera, batteries, cell phone, magazines and snacks

For the baby - coming home outfit, extra blankets, wipes and washcloth - the hospital or birthing center will give you PLENTY of diapers and stuff to bathe baby with.

I would go ahead and have your infant car seat installed (or at least stored) in the back seat.

Make sure you ask if you can get a diaper bag - hospitals and birthing centers usually give them away free as promotions from formula companies.

Also, if you are planning to nurse, be sure to take advantage of the facility's lactation consultant and/or any supplies they will give you (nipple cream, breast pads, shields, etc).

If you want to wear the hospital gowns, just bring once change of clothes and some socks and toiletries. You don't need a whole lot. An outfit for the baby, the hopital will provide diapers and all the essentials for the baby.

Also.. Just an FYI..Take EVERYTHING that is extra in the room, your insurance is already being billed for it. Not like sheets and blankets, but extra diapers, lotions, anything like that and don't forget to ask for a diaper bag if they don't already give you one that is loaded with free samples. I'd say you should wait until you are about 33/34 weeks to start packing.

I started packing my bag at 36 weeks and at 1:30am while I was trying to decide if I was really in labor. I was packed and then by that time realized I was really in labor.
I took PJs, tooth brush, tooth paste, brush, hair tie, slippers, coming home outfit for myself, baby blanket, an outfit to bring my son home in, and an address book.

I wish I would have brought my own shampoo, and a camera.

I always have gotten out a large duffel bag when I hit the third trimester and thrown things in as I gather them. Usually the hospital has a list of things to bring, but here are a few key things that I have been happy to have:
-CD/CDs to relax to during labor
-honey sticks (like straws filled with flavored honey) as a quick energy source during labor
-massage oil for back rubs (my hubby's hands have provided more pain relief than anything else during labor)
-hard candy to suck on during labor
-my own PJ's (make sure they're stretchy and comfy)
-my own pads (the hospital ones are bulky and uncomfortable) I always just bring the ones designed for night time as they are more absorbent
-baby book so we can do footprints directly on the footprint page and visitors can sign it
-a kit with "pampering" items like my own shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc. (It feels sooo nice to take a shower and smell good when you are done with labor and delivery!)

Hope this helps!
