Many musical artists are known for their political stances and/or lyrics. Some are not, necessarily, but they write a song on a particular subject that is close to their heart.

Have the lyrics of any song on a specific political, religious, or social topic ever altered your views on that topic?

It is a bad idea to take any sort of social or political advice from an "Entertainer"........ They have no concept of the real world.

Not really. I've always viewed Religon, Politicians and social topics the same way since I started thinkin about them. Though I tend to lean towards music by people of likemindedness.

RELIGION- For weak minded sheep.
POLITICIANS- The most legal crooks in the world next to televangelism.
And Social topics vary depending on the topic.

I can't say that any songs have changed my mind about my views, but certainly many songs by many groups have reinforced some of my beliefs, enlightened me to issues I wasn't even aware of, and educated me on a lot of things in regards to politics and social issues.
The Dead Kennedys are a great example, as well as Negativland.

The most it's ever done is make me re-examine my beliefs and see if I still feel that way. And it's helped me empathize better with people who don't share my views.

But in a nutshell, no...I have yet to change my political, religious, or social beliefs because of a song...no matter how much I may like the song.

Not exactly. It's not that I always agree or disagree with the performer in question. But I don't believe that most singers and actors are any more qualified than the rest of us to see what is going on in the world. We are perfectly capable of making our own judgments. Sometimes I think entertainers overstep their boundaries by playing politician without all the facts at their disposal.

Bad Religion never made me change my mind on anything. But it's hard to disagree with much of what their songs are about. The latest song New Dark Ages, that really hit home.

Many songs have made me think about a subject and look deeper into it. I'm not sure if they have altered my view as much as make me think about a subject. There as been some song where I didn't know much about the subject where after hearing them I have looked up more information on the subject and then forming a view on the subject.

Yes, actually. There is a song by Simple Plan that I used to listen to all the time and it totally changed my view on poverty. It made me think and feel compelled to do something about it. The lines are:
"Tell me what's wrong with society
When everywhere I look I see
Rich guys driving big SUV's
While kids are starving in the streets
No one cares
No one likes to share
I guess life's unfair"

I first heard the song Dear God by XTC when I was struggling with my atheism. It didn't alter my views, as it was already apparent to me where I was going, but I felt so alone, and this song made me realize I wasn't.

"Free Nelson Mendela". I had no idea who he was at the time but kept thinking: For god's sake somebody let him out so they will stop singing it.

Nope. I still pretty much hate everything I've always hated and like everything I've always liked.
