The ACLU has filed lawsuit in the state of Hawaii to prevent the state from random drug testing of teachers. Their main arguement is that Drug testing of employees is unconstitutional. The history behind this requirement is that 4 staff members (3 Teachers and a Principal) were arrested last school year on drug related charges, possesion and possesion with intent to distribute. This inclusion of random drug testing in the new teachers union contract was voted on and agreed to by the teachers union, so why does the ACLU feel that it should argue against random drug testing for teachers? Do you agree that teachers that teach in public schools should be drug tested? I DO.

O.K. Well I'm in the military we are randomly tested constantly. If Those of you believe that public employees shouldn't be tested because it's invasion of privacy, then military shouldn't be tested either. This has already been brought up to the U.S. Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court said that it's ok for companies and governement to test employees for drug testing. The teachers mentioned were caught on campus at elementary schools. Is this what you want from your teachers? Homework is chapter 8, and a buy the baggy of meth off me?

No! I think drug testing is an invasion of privacy. Your assuming that if someone smokes a doobie every once in a while they are some how not qualified

oh hell yah....it's bad enough you have to worry about kids getting kids hooked on drugs. Peer pressure can be very hard on a kid, but when you have an adult even an adult the child may admire providing them with illegal substances it's even worst b/c the child may want to impress this adult. Not to mention there's sick perverted ppl out there that may get your child high and then take advantage of them and do horrible unspeakable things that no child should have to go through.
It's absolutely obscene not have teachers drug tested and if i were and living Hawaii i would totally start a petition. i can betcha you aren't the only person that feels this way.

I think that teachers should be drug free.. but that doesn't mean you should test all of them just because you caught a couple of bad apples.
Think about working a job where you are constantly being asked to pee in a cup.
The ACLU's concern (hopefully) is protecting the innocent majority.

Are you ppl serious? You shouldn't test teachers for drugs just because of 'privacy(which is important, don't get me wrong)'?
Well, I don't know about you, but I don't want to be taught by a crackhead. And I don't want my future children being taught by crackheads either.
I don't know how you can stand having your children taught by crackheads.

No, absolutely not.
Drug testing presumes guilt, and essentially requires the testee to prove his or her innocence.
Americans seen to value a free society, yet when a bit of hysteria is interjected, they often fail to see the logic of beginning down the path toward totalitarian rule.
I say get rid of obviously bad teachers. If you want to test them for something, give them IQ TESTS!

I agree that they should be tested. The ACLU picks and chooses what they will attack and defend in America. Ask them to defend your Constitutional right to bear arms, and they will walk away.

I believe that if the public feels public employees should be randomly tested for no other reason than they are public employees...then they shouldnt object to all americans being tested by their employer....

My friend, the ACLU is anything but ignorant. They fight for this because they strongly believe in their agenda, which turns out to be the destruction of society as we know it and the devaluation of society as we value it. They are anything but ignorant. They are cold, calculating and very intelligent and are using their intelligence to undermine society, the nuclear family and a very vast majority of Christian values.

Teachers have a right to privacy just like every other American. Just because you feel you "pay their salaries" because you pay taxes doesn't mean you get to dig around in their private lives.

sounds like you've already made up your mind.
Take a look at their page. Maybe you can figure it out.
Or wait until your rights are violated. Take a look around and see
if anyone is willing to stand up for you.
and get a spell checker.
