Everyone will be moving to Fiber in time. Some areas will take longer to build out than others.

If you have fiber in the area, I'd say go for it. They nearly always bundle great features with new products to get people on board (and help pay off the huge investment!) so you're likely to get more goodies on the Fiber package.

As for old standard reliability, cable might be a better bet at this point, but I try to embrace the new thing wherever possible, so I of course recommend the Fiber.

Speeds and specs vary widely by area and capacity in your building, so check with the local office to be sure what you're getting.

Good luck!

Well, I just switched from Charter to AT*T Uverse (what they call the fiber system) They bring the final run into the house with copper but it all seems to work really well.

With Charter we had the 5meg internet (512 up limit) and some permium channels. Ran about $130.00 month. I use Vonage for phones. Had been really happy until they raised the price to a "lets make a ton of money" level.

Now that ATT has been installed, I can report the following.
Ordered the package, they came and installed everything FREE. Setup three TV's and the router. Three separate tuners and DVR. Internet speed I ordered was 6meg with 1meg up. (It is indeed faster than the cable!)

I have run speed tests and get routine 4.8 to 5.3 meg down and 950-980 upload. Not bad at all and certainly exceeds the speed that Charter was delivering with the 5 meg service. Usually saw 3.8-4.2 download and 390-430 up.

TV is super clean and all channels are perfectly clear.
Vonage is working just fine and is in fact cleaner than it was with Charter. I also have another router behind the 2wire that AT*T supplies and it works just fine for the second network.

SO for me the $75/month beats cable all over the place! Even better it is a lot less per month and better service!
The menus are easier to use, the dvr is great, I can even program it from any web browser (like from work) to record so I can watch a program when I get home. Cable never did that for me!
The say they may offer higher speeds (up to 10-15) sometime after the first of the year!

Call me happy.
