The Motherboards are both Socket 478 but I want to know if they are compatible and I can simply switch out the processors and they will both work.

The Compaq EVO has a Pentium 4 1.90 ghz
The HP D530 has a Pentium 4 2.60 ghz (2 CPUs)

I am assuming the D530 is a Dual Core since it says that at the end and there is only 1 CPU chip inside.

Can I switch both of them out and have both still work?

the short answer is yes...

the p4, 478 socket 1.9g is a 400 fsb...

the p4, 478 socket 2.6b is a 533 fsb...

the only problem that you might have is that the fsb is higher on the 2.6g chip...which is NOT a dual core...it is a single core chip. (look at spec's)

double check the max fsb on the mother board that you intend to use to make sure, but it really isn't much of a junp at all, and most boards of that era do easily...

but at the end of the day it's just pop and swap and your good to go.

the d530 is not a dual core PC it only supports P4 or celeron CPU. you shouldnt have a prob swapping them just make sure the PC your putting the faster processor in has the bus speed to run it properly. you wont really notice the difference between the two CPU's performance.

You can swap them the compaq can support 400 and 533 MHz Front Side Bus. just be sure to make the proper changes in your motherboards BIOS or you may have to physically change a jumper on your motherboard its not hard to find the jumper it should be near the CPU or RAM slots.

Maybe, depending upon the age of the Compaq. The motherboard must be dual core ready, and only the specs from the manufacturer can answer that.

Hi. The fact that they both use the same socket type indicates that you should be able to. But your motherboard and BIOS are what determines that. I have never done it, so I can't say yes.
